I've had many PSPs, and activated them with PSN. The first 3 that I had (About a year ago) I sold, or traded away, but, before doing so, always reset the default settings, and this naturally removed my login details for PSN. For Christmas, I got a PSP that had analog stick problems, But, the XMB only uses the D-Pad, so I wasn't aware of any problems until I downloaded some games from my account. I reset the default settings, and took it back to Gamestop. They gave me another one, and after 2 days, the screen went blank, and was broken. I took that back to GameStop, and finally got a working one. But, now I can't activate it on PSN, since all 5 of my available slots were taken.
After an hour on the phone with Sony tech support, I essentially lost $150 worth of games, because you need to have the physical system in order to deactivate it. There is NO text in the ToS explaining this, and the only way you'll know is if you use Account Management on your PC, or look in the knowledgebase, when you actually have the problem, and its too late.
Sony claims everyone should know this, well that's wrong, since there's actually no warning on the system itself, the instruction book has NOTHING about PSN, and the only way you'll know is when you have the actual problem. Granted, the PS3 might actually tell you this, I don't know, but, I don't own a PS3, hence why I wouldn't have known.
So, if you plan on selling your PS3/PSP, DEACTIVATE THE SYSTEM BEFORE YOU DO! Resetting the default settings doesn't do this, and Sony Tech Support refuses to help out at all (They claim its in the ToS, like I said earlier, but after spending 2 hours reading through it, the only text is about Video content.) A word to Sony, I might have gotten a PS3, and was planning on it once I got my tax return, but, not anymore, not with the crappy tech support I got, even Apple's activation system works better than yours.
Remember: DEACTIVATE YOUR SYSTEM BEFORE SELLING IT, OR ELSE YOU MAY NOT BE ABLE TO ACCESS THE GAMES YOU LEGALLY BOUGHT.
On another note, I've switched to Custom Firmware...
EDIT: I forgot o mention, but even the GameStop employees have never heard of such a thing, Sony doesn't make the text visible enough!
